Why do I work with EMDR to change people’s lives
Mental ill-health does not come out of nowhere. It usually arises after years of coping. Coping can get us a long way. It can cover up and hide many many things, even from ourselves. The problem is that coping takes energy. Lots of energy. Lots and lots of energy. And the more we ‘cope-with’ rather than process and resolve our experiences the more energy it takes. This is not an infinite system. One day something pushes your coping system past it’s limit. That thing might be big and obvious, or almost invisible, but it happened. Your coping system fails and mental and/or physical ill-health is the consequence. EMDR and talking therapy are the way to reset, heal and, rebuild differently.

In-person therapy
In-person sessions take place near Cockermouth in Cumbria. I believe that the space where you do therapy can be healing in itself. Find out about the space where I work

The first time we meet
The first time meeting a therapist is often a bit strange and awkward. It’s fairly unavoidable for such a big meeting. To help reduce that strangeness, read my take on what a first session is like.

Online therapy and EMDR
If in-person sessions aren’t possible, EMDR and talking therapy can be very effective via video-call. But it does need you to put much more effort into preparation and privacy. Find out what you should consider.
